About Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a large market town situated in the heart of Northern England. With a history dating back over 4,000 years, the town has long been associated with the engineering and textiles industries and played an important role in the Industrial Revolution.
The town also has a long history of education and innovation dating back to the formation of the Scientific and Mechanics Institute in 1825. The Department of Informatics, within the School of Computing and Engineering, will host the PlanSIG 2011 Workshop. Staff within the department have research interests across a variety of subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Automated Planning, Computational Mathematics, Serious Games, Information Systems etc, and have a strong track-record of applied research and industrial collaboration.
Alongside its industrial heritage, Huddersfield sits on the edge of the Peak District, the UK's most popular National Park with an estimated 10 million visitors each year. The town is within easy reach of the cities of Manchester and Leeds, both of which lie less than 30 minutes away by train, and only an hour's journey from Manchester International Airport.
