Dr. Menno van Os, DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability
Dr. Menno van Os is a principal consultant in the field of Asset Integrity and Risk Management. At present, he coordinates the activities of the Asset Integrity team within DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability. Before KEMA and DNV joined forces in 2012, he has been the head of the team Gas Infrastructure and Transport within KEMA for several years, leading a team of thirty professionals. Together with his team, he carried out a large number of projects in the field of risk assessment, asset management and pipeline integrity for many different customers over the world. He has been actively involved in a number of technical due diligence investigations of gas infrastructure companies.
From 2003 until the acquisition of Gasunie Engineering & Technology by KEMA in 2009, he worked for Gasunie for six years, initially as a researcher and later as the team manager of the Integrity and Safety department. He has thorough knowledge on topics related to pipeline integrity, both from his academic background and his professional experience. Furthermore he is a recognized expert in the field of External Corrosion Direct Assessment. Some of his other fields of interest include coatings, corrosion, cathodic protection, pipeline inspection techniques and pipeline integrity management.
Prior to joining Gasunie, he worked as a development chemist of coatings for optical glass fiber at DSM, The Netherlands. He received a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Twente in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Polymer Technology from the same university in 2000. Menno carried out most of his Ph.D. research at the Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung in Mainz, Germany and at the University of Texas at Arlington, United States. Menno is author of numerous publications in the field of pipeline integrity, and speaks on pipeline and corrosion conferences on a regular basis.
